WA Node of the Australian Ocean Data Network (WAODN)

The diversity and amount of marine data being collected is increasing dramatically in Western Australia. Similar data is being collected by government, universities and private organisations, however it is rarely shared and access is a challenge. There is a need to improve the quality and discoverability of marine data available to support decision making, as well as the underlying infrastructure for accessing and disseminating marine data in a timely manner.

The Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) is an interoperable, online network of marine and coastal data resources. WA was the first ‘regional node’ of the AODN and built upon work undertaken by the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and the eMarine Information Infrastructure (eMII) facility.

The Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) is a key partner with the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre in the WAODN. WAMSI is working to create a legacy by ensuring WAMSI research data is easily discoverable and accessible through the WAODN portal. The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is providing the infrastructure to create metadata, store data and visually represent it in the WAODN portal.

Any organisation can make their marine data available through the WAODN portal. To view data that already exists, please visit:
