iVEC@CSIRO is located within CSIRO’s Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC) in Kensington, Western Australia. It is iVEC’s longest running Facility, having been set up when ARRC was first opened in 2001. It has been the home for iVEC’s first forays into 3D visualisation, including the haptic feedback-augmented personal 3D environment, and the room-based rear-projection wedge system. iVEC’s first two supercomputers, Carlin and Cognac,were installed at ARRC with Cognac being decommissioned at the end of 2011, and the Petascale Data Store installed in 2009. iVEC@CSIRO hosts the Office of the Executive Director, along with supercomputing and technical staff. It also supports two 3D visualisation environments and room-based videoconferencing services. iVEC@CSIRO is the hub of iVEC’s high-speed dark fibre Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) connecting the iVEC partners, and provides access to AARNet and the internet at large through CSIRO and AARNet’s Point-of-Presence (PoP) at ARRC.
